producing milk to the whole of the uk

Mark went away to Harper Adams Agricultural College for 4 years to study for a BSc (Hons) Degree in agriculture and returned home in 1993. In partnership with dad Stuart, the pair had expanded the dairy herd from 60 cows to over 300! However, with the difficulties in the dairy industries over the years and the falling milk prices, the number of cows had to be reduced back to around 80.
During this time, around 5000 litres of milk was picked up every night by the milk tanker and delivered fresh into Arla dairies at Leeds where it is bottled for both Morrisons and Cravendale. The milk was also used in well known brands and products such as; Cravendale milk, Big milk, Best of Both milk, Anchor butter, Anchor cheese, Protein yoghurts and drinks, a new range of Yoghurts known as Skyr – ‘the icelandic super yoghurt’, as well as a range of lacto-free milk and cheese products.

welcoming lucy to the farm

Due to the continued pressures on the dairy industry and changes in milk prices, the farm has now gone back to its original roots of being a mixed farm. Mark and Kay’s daughter Lucy is taking control of the farm, and has entered the first stages of the farms transformation. She has big ambitions and has already acquired a number of rare breed piglets, lambs and is also currently searching for some calves. The first batch of pigs and lambs were ready in late Autumn 2018 and we began selling our own fresh and frozen home reared outdoor pork and lamb in the farm shop.

We encourage people to come and see the animals on the farm and please feel free to have a look around but we’d like to remind everyone that this is a real live working farm and children must be supervised at all times. Also we must stress that you are sure to use the antibacterial soap after petting any animals that we out and about in the paddocks around the car park.
